About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support production of the Council’s financial statements
  • Lead on statutory returns
  • Coordinate responses across a wide range of services
  • Help ensure successful delivery of external audits
  • Provide expert technical accounting advice
  • Translate complex financial information into clear guidance for non-financial colleagues and senior stakeholders
  • Contribute to Local Government Reorganisation and Devolution
  • Implement new accounting requirements
  • Strengthen financial governance
  • Drive efficiencies and continuous improvement across the finance function
  • Mentor and develop staff in finance and across the Council
  • Work closely with the Lead Accountant and wider Finance team
  • Influence key financial decisions and support organisational change

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • CCAB (e.g. CIPFA, ACCA or CIMA) qualified
  • Broad base of financial experience and knowledge, preferably gained from a public sector background
  • Ability to work well as part of a team, mentor and manage staff as required
  • Ability to competently represent the Chief Financial Officer as required
  • Trustworthy, diligent and motivated, and able to work without close supervision
  • Willingness to welcome change and adjust readily to evolving needs and requirements
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain technical/financial information in simple terms
  • Supporting statement and CV required; supporting documents must be PDF or MS Word format
  • DBS checks or police vetting required for relevant posts
