About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Oversee the development, maintenance, and support of technical infrastructure including network, hardware, database, and system software components
Lead portfolio-level Principal meetings to maintain alignment, consistency, and knowledge sharing
Collaborate with leaders on build-versus-buy technology decisions
Develop proofs of concept with new technologies and support portfolio adoption
Monitor resource usage and drive cost-reduction opportunities and enhancements
Act as an escalation point for teams facing extremely complex challenges
Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to supported teams
Collaborate on annual and mid-year reviews and provide performance feedback
Attract, retain, develop, and motivate top talent
Work with Distinguished Engineers to define technology solutions and align team strategies
Identify and remove roadblocks and bottlenecks across cross-functional projects
Influence technology roadmaps and drive thought leadership and innovation
Escalate and help resolve high-priority issues and outages
Support project, product, and support teams with technology questions
Work with vendors to identify and implement software feature enhancements
Promote successful use of tooling and technology across local teams

Requirements

What you’ll need

Must be eighteen years of age or older
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States
Minimum education: high school diploma and/or GED
Minimum of 9 years of work experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience with platform tools and technologies, including Kubernetes and CNCF-associated projects
Familiarity with Red Hat OpenShift and Pivotal Cloud Foundry
One field of expertise should include a programming language or key knowledge in multiple infrastructure domains
Mastery in assigned domains
Ability to understand complicated systems quickly
Active participation in or leadership of professional groups affiliated with specific domains
Experience developing and evangelizing broad technology strategies
Preferred qualifications include 7–9 years of relevant work experience and 2–3+ years of previous leadership experience
Experience with SQL Server and Oracle is a plus
Experience using AI-assisted development practices
