About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage a team of tax professionals in achieving the Tax Department's goals
  • Perform tax planning, research, compliance, accounting, and audit defense as needed
  • Serve as principal contact on projects with governmental officials, outside counsel, and business partners
  • Lead special studies to determine tax implications of company operations
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of tax returns
  • Ensure accurate statements of accounting reserves, including FAS 109 and FIN 48 where applicable
  • Serve as liaison between SSC and subsidiary businesses in the US and internationally
  • Participate on cross-functional teams as a subject-matter expert
  • Coach and mentor associates in the department
  • Supervise work activities of others, including planning, monitoring, and reviewing subordinate work
  • Make recommendations concerning selection, termination, performance appraisal, and professional development
  • Report to a Senior Manager or Director
  • Typically require overnight travel less than 10% of the time

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be eighteen years of age or older
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States
  • CPA, CMI, or JD strongly preferred
  • MACc, MBA or MTAX preferred
  • 5–8 years experience preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Flexibility
  • Demonstrated technical tax skills appropriate for the years of experience in one or more tax disciplines
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage and implement multiple complex projects, people management, and communications to both technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Proven analytical and problem resolution skills
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job
  • Technical expertise in tax
  • Coaching, counseling, and people management skills
  • Ability to work with teams in diverse functional areas
