About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive multi-year and annual maintenance and growth capital planning for assigned sites/manufacturing PODs
  • Prioritize maintenance budgets with cross-functional teams including Food Safety & Quality, EHS, suppliers, FM Global, Roofing, PSM, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain
  • Ensure capital plans are achievable and projects have no unplanned operational or service impacts
  • Own the health, compliance, and delivery of maintenance and growth projects across assigned plants/manufacturing PODs
  • Ensure safe construction practices and compliant, effective equipment installation
  • Mentor site Engineering and Capital Project Managers on lean construction teaming, quality, safety, cost, and delivery techniques
  • Approve project change-control requests and contingency or supplemental funding
  • Prepare portfolio status reports for Global and North American committees
  • Monitor and control construction work in progress with the Fixed Asset team
  • Lead internal and external project teams from conceptual design through vertical startup
  • Define project budgets, schedules, structures, resources, and skills
  • Lead Capital Appropriations Requests submissions and advocate before capital investment committees
  • Ensure safety and environmental compliance for project personnel, contractors, and subcontractors
  • Develop and implement project risk-management strategies
  • Maintain communication with project teams, governance teams, business partners, and stakeholders
  • Provide routine progress reports
  • Implement project and financial controls for change management, cost forecasting, productivity measurement, and invoice review/payment
  • Ensure commissioning and vertical startup align with handover strategy and operations forecasts
  • Conduct audits and health checks and support KHMS updates with PMO and Global/International teams
  • Drive continuous improvement of capital project-management activities and processes
  • Develop and share best practices and KPIs for Capex Management and Total Cost of Ownership
  • Build and administer onboarding and training for site and network Engineering and Capital Project Managers
  • Develop cost-saving opportunities with plant teams and convert prioritized ideas into projects
  • Manage, coach, and mentor direct and indirect reports
  • Partner with Engineering, Technical Services, and HR on employee development and organizational change management
  • Ensure projects use appropriate technical solutions while meeting cost targets
  • Support Post Implementation Reviews
  • Partner with Procurement on sourcing strategy, technical requirements, specifications, bidding, and bid evaluations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school or related field is required
  • Experience in engineering, project management and/or technical leadership across multiple sites
  • Prior experience in an in-plant technical role is preferred
  • PMP certificate strongly preferred
  • Experience with strategic and annual capital planning
  • Strong background in process and packaging equipment for the food industry and/or plant facility engineering and maintenance
  • Experience with building construction and components, building utilities, mechanical and electrical systems, ammonia refrigeration systems, electrical controls systems, computer applications, facility support equipment, and water and wastewater systems
  • Demonstrated ability to direct/lead/manage cross-functional teams on large capital projects/programs of $20MM or more
  • Understanding of capital financial and manufacturing KPIs
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment
  • Proficient understanding of project management practices, including initiating, planning, execution, monitoring/controlling, and closeout
  • Working knowledge of pre-design and pre-construction, building systems/components and technology, contract management, project delivery methods, and team building
  • Hands-on experience negotiating and managing contracts and agreements with engineering contractors, vendors, regulatory and government agencies
  • Experience reading and understanding architectural, mechanical, electrical, process, plumbing, structural, and fire construction drawings and specifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel to locations outside of the home state for extended periods, up to 50%
  • Ability to work remotely with little supervision
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, afternoons, nights, and overtime as needed
  • Ability to inspect sites, occasionally scale heights, traverse workplaces, and work in noisy environments
