About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage a book of business for profitability and growth
  • Review new and renewal business and assess coverage risk
  • Prepare quotes and respond to coverage questions within assigned authority
  • Build relationships with agents to drive positive business flow
  • Analyze, select and profitably price business with prescribed coverage terms and conditions
  • Examine inspection reports, locations, risks, financial information and other reports to identify concerns
  • Communicate with Risk Control regarding inspections, follow-ups and insured service needs
  • Drive corrective action or remediation strategies on renewal accounts
  • Escalate accounts requiring additional review or approval
  • Release renewals, non-renewals and conditional notices in accordance with service expectations and regulations
  • Develop relationships with distribution partners through portfolio review calls and customer feedback standards
  • Travel on a limited basis to distribution partner offices
  • Coordinate with distribution teams to build pipeline, resolve issues and oversee change management
  • Communicate with portfolio team members regarding agency health and market conditions
  • Mentor support staff and assist with training new hires and internal promotions
  • Conduct peer audits and approve underwriting decisions for lower authority levels
  • Review, mentor and approve referrals for lower-authority associates
  • Perform other related work as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance or related field of study preferred
  • Holding or working towards an insurance designation preferred (CPCU, IIA, etc.)
  • Seven years of progressively responsible experience in commercial underwriting, including one to three years in a property and casualty insurance company
  • Experience writing business for churches or religious affiliated institutions preferred
  • Broad knowledge of common terms, practices, processes and regulations in the P&C insurance industry
  • Ability to apply advanced underwriting concepts and practices within the P&C underwriting field
  • Negotiating skills, reasonableness and sound judgment in analysis and decision-making
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft products, including Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.)
  • Strong attention to numeric and other details
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage large work volume and meet tight deadlines
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
