About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, implement and manage multi-year cultivation and solicitation strategies for gift prospects
  • Identify, qualify and build relationships with new major donor prospects
  • Manage a portfolio of established donors and prospects
  • Build and manage a portfolio of 50–85 donors, including prospects with capacity to give at least $100,000
  • Complete 40–75 visits and 150–250 moves annually
  • Pursue an annual fundraising goal of $2,000,000 or more once the portfolio matures
  • Meet discovery-based metrics, annual qualification goals and quarterly outreach goals in years one and two
  • Persuasively convey TNC’s mission to important stakeholder groups
  • Exercise sound judgment in donor strategy, relationship management and fundraising activities
  • Direct or participate in negotiations for complex, high-profile or sensitive agreements
  • Ensure compliance with TNC policies, procedures and donor/legal/IRS requirements
  • Set and meet fundraising objectives, evaluate results and develop corrective strategies
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Resolve complex donor, project and relationship-management issues, escalating matters when necessary
  • Travel regionally and work long hours and weekends as needed
  • Staff chapter leadership as a moves manager when appropriate
  • Manage assigned trustee relationships and volunteer engagement
  • Use the Conservancy’s donor database
  • Collaborate across chapters and programs to develop sophisticated donor strategies
  • Discuss and incorporate gifts of assets, planned gifts and blended gifts into donor proposals

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree and 7 years related experience
  • Demonstrated success building and managing a pipeline of six- and seven-figure gift prospects and donors
  • Experience building and maintaining sophisticated long-term relationships with high-net-worth individuals
  • Experience asking for and closing six- and seven-figure gifts, including planned gifts and blended gifts
  • Experience managing and tracking multiple prospects simultaneously
  • Experience with fundraising principles and practices
  • Experience collaborating with fundraisers and senior leaders across multiple business units and teams in a complex, matrix organization
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in current and evolving trends in charitable giving, particularly capital campaigns, major gifts and planned giving
  • Ability to design and implement fundraising strategies
  • Ability to determine individual interests, capacity and potential for helping the Conservancy meet its goals
  • Ability to educate and inform donors about appropriate giving vehicles
  • Advanced knowledge of complex charitable gift planning
  • Proven ability to negotiate complex, high profile or sensitive agreements
  • Valid driver’s license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program
  • Successful completion of The Nature Conservancy’s background screening process
