About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop, manage, and advance Tribal engagement strategy, plans, and programs at state and regional levels
- Help lead TNC Nebraska’s Indigenous Program and build relationships with Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities in Nebraska
- Guide TNC Nebraska efforts to become a trusted, value-added partner supporting Tribal and Indigenous conservation priorities
- Advocate for Indigenous-led conservation
- Serve as a primary liaison with Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities
- Work with TNC Nebraska’s conservation team and Indigenous Rights Relations teams to advise, partner, and lead programs focused on Tribal history, Tribal Sovereignty, and Traditional Ecological Knowledge
- Serve as a resource and advisor for colleagues leading Tribal engagement in conservation programs
- Navigate services and departments to build relationships and further TNC’s conservation mission
- Build and maintain relationships with Tribal and non-Tribal partners
- Ensure program compliance with internal policies and external requirements
- Perform tasks with minimal supervision and make independent decisions based on analysis, experience, and context
- Travel frequently, mostly on day trips, potentially up to 50% in the first year
- Work in variable weather, remote locations, difficult or hazardous terrain, and physically demanding circumstances
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience in natural resource management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience working with Tribal Nations and/or Indigenous people and communities in a culturally appropriate manner
- Relationship building experience with Tribal partners, media, government officials, and internal scientists
- Experience completing tasks independently within timelines
- Experience communicating via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages
- Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, and web browsers
- Experience in training
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated
- Ability and willingness to apply science to decision-making and guide activities
- Familiarity with principles of land acquisition or similar asset acquisition
- Knowledge of ecological land management principles
- Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management, and natural resource preservation
- Compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program and completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement
- Successful completion of The Nature Conservancy's background screening process
