About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build initial rating structures and pricing models for new insurance programs
  • Model expected loss ratio, commission structure, fronting costs, and profitability under different scenarios
  • Validate rating logic in production systems before launch
  • Produce recurring loss ratio, frequency, severity, and trend reporting for program reviews
  • Build and maintain performance dashboards for Underwriting and leadership
  • Investigate emerging trends and adverse development and provide recommendations
  • Prepare loss data, exhibits, and experience analyses for carrier submissions, renewal proposals, and reinsurance placements
  • Support bordereaux accuracy, delegated authority reporting, and carrier audit requests
  • Build and maintain rate indications, loss cost models, and rate level analyses
  • Support segmentation and risk selection analysis and recommend rate responses
  • Perform competitive and market analysis to assess pricing adequacy and positioning
  • Prepare rate, rule, and form filing exhibits and supporting actuarial materials and respond to regulator objections
  • Provide analytical support for underwriting referrals, account-level pricing questions, and appetite decisions
  • Help maintain and refine underwriting guidelines using data
  • Partner with Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Product, and Engineering
  • Automate recurring analyses and apply AI where it improves efficiency

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • ACAS, FCAS, or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of P&C actuarial experience, ideally in personal or commercial auto, specialty, or program business
  • Strong technical foundation in ratemaking, loss reserving, and trend analysis
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Working proficiency in SQL and at least one of Python or R
  • Experience building reports or dashboards in a BI tool such as Tableau, Looker, or Power BI
  • Comfortable working with imperfect, incomplete, or newly created data and communicating resulting uncertainty
  • Ability to explain analyses clearly to underwriters, executives, and carrier partners who are not actuaries
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related quantitative field
  • Genuine curiosity about why a number moved and persistence to investigate
  • Bias toward automating recurring work
  • Strong attention to detail and judgment about precision versus speed
  • Comfort in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and limited precedent
  • Collaborative style with underwriters and claims adjusters
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including summarizing complex analyses concisely
