About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Help individuals find solutions to social adjustment problems and end cycles of crisis and poverty
- Collaborate with partners including law enforcement, children’s aid, Indigenous organizations, and healthcare providers
- Develop case plans, maintain case notes, coordinate cases, and provide referrals
- Complete applications and paperwork
- Conduct home visits and in-home training when required
- Support volunteers and co-workers across multiple program sites
- Provide consultation support to community agencies and refer participants to training opportunities
- Assess suitability for internal and external programs and agencies
- Ensure participant supervision and safety and comply with program policies and procedures
- Participate in community events, food bank activities, Christmas assistance, and other all-hands-on-deck events
- Assist with church services on Sunday mornings
- Lead workshops, courses, and group offerings related to Pathway of Hope case work
- Contribute to program development, statistics collection, outcome measurement, and program materials
- Support policy, learning guide, facilitator material, and administrative framework development
- Coordinate program delivery and complete monthly and project-end reports
- Seek community donations and in-kind support and build external stakeholder relationships
- Attend stakeholder meetings, evaluations, focus groups, and community committees
- Maintain accurate records and statistics
- Participate in training, meetings, and professional development
- Model positive behaviors and boundaries and support The Salvation Army’s mission
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for The Salvation Army’s mission and purpose in Canada
- Compliance with Health and Safety Regulations and The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
- Completion of a formal post-secondary/college diploma program of 2 academic years in Social Services or a related field
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Two years of prior related experience, including experience in a social service setting, supervision experience, experience working with marginalized individuals, and a social services background
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet, and Email
- Proficiency in Canva is an asset
- Proficiency in administration and file management procedures
- Valid First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, and Non-violent crisis intervention training would be valued assets
- Strong integrity, confidentiality, professional ethics, fairness, and flexibility
- Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills
- Strong understanding of professional boundaries when working with a vulnerable population
- Patience and ability to deescalate situations
- Service ethic and friendly disposition with the public
- Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions
- Team orientation and initiative
- Willingness to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
