About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Coordinate activities associated with discipleship and outreach ministries for church and community youth
  • Mentor, disciple, encourage and model appropriate Christian attitudes and behaviours
  • Coordinate, plan, implement, maintain and assist in evaluating youth programs and ministries
  • Plan and conduct creative worship services, evangelistic outreach, care programs, visitation and Bible studies as applicable
  • Pray with and lead youth and family members to faith in Jesus Christ as opportunity permits
  • Develop and implement leadership development programs for youth and youth leaders
  • Recruit, orient and train volunteer leaders
  • Work with church administrative and pastoral caregivers on problem-solving
  • Follow church security procedures to ensure participant safety and information confidentiality
  • Interact with community partners and resources, including possible participation on community committees
  • Maintain written records, activity reports and statistical information
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Completed high school, plus specialized courses of up to 6 months
  • An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable
  • Youth leadership training
  • Biblical studies
  • Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)
  • One year but less than three years of prior related experience, including experience working with children and youth
  • Ability and willingness to successfully undergo applicable screening and background checks satisfactory to The Salvation Army, including the Salvation Army Abuse Registry
  • Ability to lift more than 20 pounds
  • Ability to participate in sports activities, keyboard, occasionally transport youth, and stand
  • Attention when teaching, giving advice/peer support, studying, planning and development
