About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee Christmas Kettle locations in Thunder Bay, including shopping malls, grocery stores, and retail outlets
  • Organize, direct, supervise, support, and assign Christmas Kettle Campaign volunteers
  • Ensure adequate staffing before and during each shift
  • Attend Salvation Army and Christmas Kettle Campaign training/orientation
  • Deliver kettles to locations before volunteer arrival and ensure donations are delivered to a secure location after shifts
  • Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to the supervisor
  • Orient and remind volunteers about proper kettle handling and duties
  • Visit locations during shift changes and intermittently
  • Respond to potential donors’ questions about Salvation Army ministries and programs
  • Promote, coordinate, and oversee Christmas Kettle Campaign staff and volunteer activities
  • Schedule staff and volunteers, participate in volunteer recruitment, and respond to emergency absences
  • Coordinate daily delivery and pickup of kettles, ensuring donation security
  • Maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites
  • Host at a kettle as required to ensure coverage for breaks
  • Ensure kettle locations have adequate literature and supplies
  • Organize post-campaign retrieval of equipment and supplies
  • Collect donations and petty cash and keep donations secure
  • Report directly to the Community Engagement Manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Some high school coursework; completion of high school is an asset
  • Minimum of one year of related experience or working in customer service
  • Money handling experience is an asset
  • Experience in office administration
  • Experience with general office equipment
  • Strong skills and experience using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License
  • Current copy of driver’s abstract satisfactory to The Salvation Army
  • Ability to lift/move 9 to 12 kgs (20–25 lbs.)
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully, including The Salvation Army Abuse Registry and an original Background Check screening
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for The Salvation Army’s mission and purpose in Canada
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening, problem-solving, analytical, customer service, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced office setting, maintain confidentiality, and comply with OH&S requirements
