About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Attend training/orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign
  • Support delivery of kettles to zone locations before campaign staff and volunteers arrive
  • Ensure donations are delivered to a secure location at the end of each shift
  • Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to the supervisor
  • Orient and remind staff and volunteers about proper kettle handling and duties
  • Supervise, support, assign, recruit, and manage the performance of campaign workers and volunteers
  • Visit locations during shift changes and intermittently
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of weekly timesheets and mileage reports
  • Remain at kettles for the full shift until relieved, ensuring donation security
  • Respond to donor questions about Salvation Army ministries and programs
  • Promote, coordinate, and oversee campaign worker and volunteer activities
  • Schedule staff and volunteers and respond to emergency absences
  • Foster positive working relationships with kettle sites
  • Coordinate daily delivery and pickup of kettles and handle emergency deliveries or pickups
  • Host at a kettle as required to provide coverage for breaks
  • Ensure kettle locations have adequate literature and supplies
  • Record statistical data and prepare weekly timesheets
  • Retrieve all equipment and supplies from kettle locations after the campaign
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Some high school coursework; completion of high school is an asset
  • Minimum of one year of related experience or working in customer service
  • Money handling experience is an asset
  • Experience in office administration
  • Strong skills and experience using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License required
  • Personal vehicle and insurance required
  • Current driver’s abstract satisfactory to The Salvation Army required
  • Ability to lift/move 9 to 12 kgs (20–25 lbs.)
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully
  • Original copy of a Background Check screening
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for The Salvation Army’s mission and purpose in Canada
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening, problem-solving, analytical, customer service, and confidentiality skills
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced setting
  • Compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
