About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct initial intake assessments to determine clients’ immediate needs and required supports
  • Provide emergency assistance including food, clothing, and household needs according to policy
  • Organize, plan, and deliver seasonal and special programs such as Christmas Hamper, Christmas Kettles, Food Drive, and Backpack programs
  • Ensure ministry objectives are accomplished and a spiritual focus is applied to programs in coordination with the CFS Manager
  • Oversee food bank activities, maintain cleanliness and stock levels, sort and process donated goods, and process clients
  • Network with The Salvation Army, government, and community social service providers to coordinate resources
  • Support, assist, supervise, train, and schedule volunteers; demonstrate work methods
  • Assist with volunteer development strategies and recommendations
  • Organize regular volunteer meetings in consultation with the supervisor
  • Handle monetary donations securely and maintain gift card and voucher documentation
  • Maintain written records, activity logs, reports, and statistical information
  • Review program assistance guidelines with the supervisor
  • Maintain confidential client records in Link2Feed and The Salvation Army’s computer system
  • Receive financial and food donations in compliance with Salvation Army policy
  • Maintain food bank appearance, condition, cleanliness, safety, and food safety
  • Work in compliance with the OH&S Act and Regulations and The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary program of two academic years in Social Services or a related field of study
  • Ability and/or willingness to provide or obtain a Safe Food Handlers Certification
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including experience working with multi-barriered persons with mental health issues
  • Knowledge of community-based resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, own vehicle, and insurance, and a current satisfactory driver’s abstract required
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully, including The Salvation Army Abuse Registry and an original Background check search
  • Good computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs. without assistance, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stand or sit for long periods, and unpack delivery vehicles
  • Ability to travel frequently up to 20% to various locations throughout Perth County
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity, professional ethics, organization, prioritization, communication, interpersonal skills, adaptability, diplomacy, tact, judgment, patience, compassion, and teamwork
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for The Salvation Army’s mission and purpose in Canada
