About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide holistic physical, emotional, and spiritual care to the Gitxsan Lax Yip community
  • Oversee and coordinate children’s discipleship, including curriculum preparation, volunteer involvement, and activity resources
  • Plan and conduct community outreach activities
  • Link children served through the food bank with church programs
  • Incorporate age-appropriate Christian practices and opportunities for spiritual and cultural exploration
  • Support and pray with children, youth, and parents/guardians
  • Pray regularly for children
  • Oversee and coordinate youth discipleship, including curriculum preparation, volunteer involvement, and activity resources
  • Recruit, screen, orient, and train volunteer leaders
  • Track and report children’s and youth activities statistics for SAMIS
  • Work in Corps buildings and, as required, outside or in varied locations
  • Travel within/outside the city as required
  • Monitor the environment and security cameras and interact attentively with guests
  • Perform computer work, walkabouts, equipment lifting/moving, and loading/unloading trucks for emergency disaster response

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years
  • Children leadership training and/or Biblical studies are required
  • Alternative combination of education and experience might be considered
  • Minimum of one (1) year prior related experience working with children and youth
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
  • Understanding and support for The Salvation Army’s mission and purpose in Canada
  • Compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
  • Theological or ministry-related training and education relating to the position
  • Strong, mature, personal Christian commitment; ability to lead and teach from the Bible and Salvation Army doctrines
  • Good understanding of family system dynamics
  • Excellent interpersonal, administrative, organizational, written, verbal communication, supervisory, delegation, and development skills
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced criminal record check and obtain internal Salvation Army child abuse registry clearance
  • Ability to work confidentially and adapt to change
  • Good computer skills
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Git x san is an asset
  • Willingness and ability to complete required training
  • Willingness and ability to complete WHMIS & Universal Precautions training during probation
  • Willingness and ability to complete online new hire health and safety training during probation
  • Ability and willingness to successfully undergo applicable screening and background checks
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
