About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own backend Java services end to end, including ideation, design review, development, code review, testing, load testing, launch, and performance monitoring
Collaborate with senior engineers, product owners, TPMs, and business units to achieve product and business requirements
Develop effective solutions, lead code reviews, drive quality, and maintain application stability
Provide leadership and direction to junior engineers while establishing high engineering standards
Write complex programs, analyze code changes, and suggest improvements
Deliver clean code daily that adds features and capabilities
Create reference implementations for mentoring junior staff
Own analysis, design, programming, debugging, and modification of software improvements and new products
Lead projects supporting commercial and end-user applications, infrastructure, and technology platforms
Perform or lead application testing and debugging and identify innovative solutions
Conceive, design, develop, test, and implement software components, fixes, improvements, systems, and applications
Interact with users to define system requirements and necessary modifications
Support estimation and planning of sophisticated scalable projects and budget allocations
Stay current with emerging technologies and make informed recommendations

Requirements

What you’ll need

Minimum of 7 years related work experience in backend development or software engineering in a large enterprise environment using Java/Docker/Spring Framework
Comfortable working in an agile environment
Familiarity with data engineering tools, methodologies, and emerging technologies
AWS managed service solution design and implementation experience
Strong experience with AWS services such as ECS, S3, Lambdas, and RDS
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced software application delivery and product launch environment
Hands-on knowledge of design patterns and data structures
Significant experience with relational databases and NoSQL data stores
Strong interest in open source technology
Good communication skills and enjoyment of mentoring and helping others succeed as a team
Bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
Knowledge of performance testing and application profiling
Experience with AI tools such as RAG, Cursor, Github MCP, and MariaDB MCP
7+ years of Java experience and Spring Framework experience
Experience with AWS Suite, including service management and deployments, EC2 and ECS containers, Elastic Search caching, S3, Fargate, Lambdas, DynamoDB, MariaDB/MySQL, Kinesis, and Developer Tools
Experience with jUnit testing; familiarity with jUnit 5 preferred
Familiarity with Firebase Test Lab and Sauce Labs Test Cloud
Experience with GitLab, GitHub, GitHub Co-Pilot, and Cursor
