About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and unify Reuters’ audience development strategy across social media, newsletters, search, community and audience insights
  • Build relationships with editors, journalists and newsroom leaders to embed audience considerations in coverage plans and digital storytelling
  • Use audience data, performance insights and reader behavior to inform editorial decisions and advise newsroom leaders
  • Manage, mentor and develop a global team of editors, strategists and platform specialists
  • Oversee newsletter strategy, optimization and segmentation
  • Shape community engagement around major coverage, live journalism and Reuters events, including Reuters NEXT
  • Partner with editorial, product, visuals, video, audio and commercial teams to create cohesive audience experiences
  • Lead search engine optimization strategy in the AI age
  • Encourage responsible experimentation with emerging platforms, formats and artificial intelligence while safeguarding Reuters’ journalistic standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Significant experience leading audience, digital or editorial teams within a major newsroom or media organization
  • Deep knowledge of social platforms, newsletters, search engine optimization and audience analytics
  • Strong understanding of subscriptions, reader engagement and audience growth
  • Demonstrated ability to use audience data and performance insights to guide editorial strategy and newsroom decision-making
  • Excellent news judgment
  • Clear commitment to Reuters’ standards and journalistic values
  • Proven ability to lead global teams, collaborate across time zones and coverage areas, and influence stakeholders in a complex newsroom
  • Preferred: Experience partnering with product, visual journalism, video, audio, events or commercial teams
  • Preferred: Experience building reader communities or developing engagement around live journalism and major events
  • Preferred: Curiosity about emerging platforms, formats, audience behaviors and responsible artificial intelligence
