  • Shape and steer the technical vision and execution for Toast IQ, Toast's AI offering
  • Maintain and improve the platform for internal teams through documentation, feature lifecycle management, and evaluation
  • Break down platform and product initiatives into incremental milestones and deliver measurable outcomes
  • Establish and uphold AI toolchain standards, architecture patterns, and best practices
  • Coach and mentor engineers and managers in technical and leadership growth
  • Balance experimentation, iteration, and platform stability in a fast-moving environment
  • Champion AI tools and practices to accelerate development, improve team velocity, and advance AI-first engineering

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of experience leading high performing engineering teams in production environments
  • Strength in modern backend architecture, including API surfaces, scalable microservices, and performance optimization
  • Fluency in modern mobile and web architecture, including component libraries, build systems, CI/CD, and microfrontend patterns
  • Experience owning or contributing to internal developer platforms supporting multiple product teams
  • Understanding of appropriate applications and limitations of LLMs and agents
  • Success partnering with product and design stakeholders to deliver customer-focused experiences
  • Ability to translate strategic goals into technical roadmaps and execution plans
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with experience influencing senior technical, product, and design leaders
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and building inclusive, high-ownership teams
  • Nice to have: familiarity with LLM and agent toolchains, including system prompts, harnesses, skills, tools, and evals
