About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, build, and ship features in Business Map's backend services, from written design through production rollout
  • Own a feature area end to end, including tests, monitoring, and staged rollout behind feature flags
  • Work with engineers on partner teams as they adopt new location and organization data
  • Join the team's on-call rotation and fix root causes of issues
  • Write designs for features and give thoughtful code reviews
  • Help newer engineers through pairing and code review

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years building backend services in Java, Kotlin, or another object-oriented language
  • Proficient with relational databases and SQL (Postgres)
  • Experience owning and operating production systems, including on-call and debugging live issues
  • Experience with distributed systems, event-driven messaging, or microservices
  • Track record of taking ambiguous projects from design to production
  • Clear written and verbal communication with engineers and product partners
  • Experience or strong interest in using coding agents and AI-assisted development day to day
  • Experience making changes in a large, long-lived codebase while it serves production traffic
  • Experience with multi-tenant data models, account hierarchies, or multi-location systems
  • Familiarity with gRPC, GraphQL, or event streaming platforms
  • React and TypeScript experience for internal tools
  • Knowledge of restaurant or multi-location business operations
