About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Billing Department
  • Lead, coach, train, mentor, and support DME Billing Specialists and Funded Collectors
  • Monitor workloads, assign tasks, and ensure timely claim processing
  • Conduct quality reviews and provide feedback
  • Assist with performance evaluations, employee development plans, and staffing recommendations
  • Serve as the first point of escalation for billing-related issues and complex account resolutions
  • Oversee clean claim submission to Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance carriers, workers' compensation plans, and other payers
  • Monitor and resolve claim rejections, denials, payer edits, appeals, collections, and reimbursement issues
  • Analyze billing trends and identify process improvement and revenue enhancement opportunities
  • Review aging accounts receivable and prioritize collection efforts
  • Resolve billing discrepancies and documentation issues with internal departments
  • Ensure appropriate modifiers, authorization requirements, and billing practices are applied
  • Maintain compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, DMEPOS, and payer-specific regulations
  • Monitor regulatory changes and communicate updates to staff
  • Conduct routine audits and support corrective action plans
  • Track and report KPIs including claims billed, clean claim rates, denial rates, accounts receivable aging, cash collections, and productivity metrics
  • Develop and update departmental policies, procedures, templates, and training materials
  • Communicate payer trends and complex issues to the Funded Collections Manager
  • Work collaboratively with billing, funding, contracting, and other team leads and managers
  • Participate in cross-functional and technology improvement projects
  • Provide educational support and represent the team in inter-departmental meetings and training sessions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum 3-5 years of healthcare billing experience required
  • Preferred DME billing experience
  • Prior leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing
  • Experience managing billing denials, appeals, collections, and reimbursement processes
  • Strong knowledge of DMEPOS billing guidelines and payer requirements
  • Understanding of HCPCS coding, modifiers, authorizations, and reimbursement methodologies
  • Proficiency with billing software, EMR systems, payor portals, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent collaboration, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism under stressful situations
  • Ability to lead change management initiatives
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer
  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, video conferencing, and email
  • Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds may be required
