About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Analyze, investigate, and resolve lower-severity and lower-complexity Bond & Specialty claims
  • Retain, monitor, and manage outside counsel and vendors using incident response and litigation management plans and budgets
  • Negotiate settlements for lower-severity and lower-complexity litigation matters
  • Prepare management reports on loss development, financial exposure, and resolution strategies
  • Develop and coordinate recovery efforts with the Recovery Management Unit
  • Attend mediations, settlement conferences, trials, depositions, and business meetings as needed
  • Provide legal and business support to underwriting colleagues, including negotiating indemnity documentation, drafting product forms and endorsements, reviewing contracts and bond forms, and supporting marketing or risk management efforts
  • Ensure stakeholders and customers feel secure, respected, and cared for throughout the claims process
  • Ensure compliance with BSI Claims processes, procedures, and best practices
  • Maintain thorough documentation of claim activities, decisions, and communications
  • Prepare timely coverage evaluations and correspondence to insureds
  • Maintain and note claim files according to company best practices
  • Handle new and existing Employment Practices Liability claims nationally across field regions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • One to five years of relevant legal or claim handling work experience
  • Ability to effectively work through conflict and resolve issues professionally
  • Ability to make sound decisions and negotiate terms and conditions within designated authority limits
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills; ability to articulate coverage determinations
  • Solid time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail, data, and analytics
  • Ability to build and maintain effective collaborative relationships
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Juris Doctor Degree
  • Properly licensed, registered or authorized, and in good standing, to practice law in the jurisdiction in which you will be working
  • Acquisition and maintenance of Insurance Adjuster License(s), generally within three months of starting, with continuing education
  • Active legal license in the state of the principal office location and current Continuing Legal Education (CLE)
  • Valid driver’s license or access to alternative transportation
