About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Handle Personal and Business Insurance Auto Bodily Injury claims from first notice of loss through resolution, settlement, and payment
  • Interpret and apply laws and statutes for multiple state jurisdictions
  • Deliver consistent service throughout the claim life cycle, including customer contact, process explanation, expectation setting, communication, follow-through, and commitment fulfillment
  • Analyze coverage and apply policy conditions, provisions, exclusions, endorsements, benefits, eligibility, limits, deductibles, co-insurance, and priority of coverage
  • Investigate claims to determine coverage, liability, damages, and contribution potential
  • Obtain and review records, damages documentation, recorded statements, wage loss and essential services information
  • Identify and coordinate resources such as Subrogation, Risk Control, nurse consultants, fire or fraud investigators, and other experts
  • Refer severe cases to the next-level claim professional or Major Case Unit
  • Establish and maintain claim and expense reserves; manage file inventory and diary activities
  • Determine settlement amounts and negotiate settlements within authority limits
  • Implement alternate resolution methods and prepare denial letters, Reservation of Rights, and other correspondence
  • Handle unrepresented and attorney-represented claims
  • Manage appropriately assigned litigated claims, develop litigation plans, control legal expenses, and attend legal proceedings as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • One-year bodily injury liability claim handling experience or comparable liability claim handling experience, or successful completion of Travelers Claim Representative training program
  • 2 years bodily injury liability claim handling experience as the ideal candidate qualification
  • General knowledge and skill in claims handling and litigation
  • Basic working level knowledge and skill in various business line products
  • Demonstrated ownership attitude and customer centric response to assigned tasks
  • Good organizational skills with ability to prioritize and work independently
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Intermediate keyboard skills and Windows proficiency, including Excel and Word
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate analytical thinking, judgment/decision making, negotiation, insurance contract knowledge, principles of investigation, value determination, settlement techniques, and medical knowledge
  • Insurance license(s) may be required and generally must be obtained within three months of starting the job, with ongoing continuing education credits as mandated
