About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and coach a team of underwriting leaders across multiple regions/business units
- Provide strategic direction to enhance underwriting and sales effectiveness
- Partner with Business Insurance leadership to craft and implement business strategies
- Own overall results and employee engagement across multiple regions/business units
- Identify trends in underwriting quality and effectiveness and drive corrective action plans
- Handle complex Collaborative Underwriting Review Evaluations (CUREs) and business issues
- Drive improvements in underwriting knowledge and execution across the Business Center
- Oversee distributor engagement and achievement of new business, rate, retention, and profit goals
- Engage with sales partners and field underwriting to refine sales processes and capitalize on market opportunities
- Address escalated agency concerns
- Develop and lead strategic initiatives spanning multiple regions and/or business units
- Provide strategic direction and support for underwriters and underwriting leaders
- Source, develop, coach, train, and manage performance of talent
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Ten or more years of property and casualty industry experience, preferably in underwriting
- Six or more years of people management experience
- Strong knowledge of underwriting and agency relationship management
- Strong knowledge of Business Center operations and key financial drivers affecting regional and local office performance
- Ability to influence and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve business goals
- Ability to develop a team of leaders and lead by example
- Ability to develop, communicate, and execute a business strategy
- Ability to leverage data and analytics to drive team and overall business performance
- Six years of underwriting experience
- Two years of people management experience
