About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct thorough investigations, analyses, evaluations, and dispositions of Bond and Specialty Insurance claims
- Handle and resolve advanced to highest-severity and complexity claims with minimal supervision
- Identify risks, liabilities, coverage issues, and negotiate settlements
- Review Bond/Insurance policies, agreements, contracts, and legal documents
- Assess claim exposures and develop claim resolution strategies
- Ensure compliance with BSI claims processes, procedures, and best practices
- Maintain documentation of claim activities, decisions, and communications
- Collaborate with outside counsel to manage litigation strategy
- Prepare management reports covering loss development, financial exposure, coverage issues, recoveries, and resolution strategies
- Identify recovery opportunities and coordinate recovery efforts
- Support stakeholders and customers throughout the claims process
- Mentor and train less experienced claims representatives
- Attend mediations, settlement conferences, claim conferences, field office visits, trials, and depositions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree preferred as an ideal candidate qualification
- Associate’s degree required
- Eight years of claim handling experience preferred as an ideal candidate qualification
- Six years of previous claim handling work experience required
- Valid driver’s license or access to alternative transportation
- Insurance license(s) required, generally obtained within three months of starting the job
- Ongoing continuing education credits as mandated
- Expert knowledge of legal terminology
- Skilled in legal research
- Advanced grammar and writing skills
- Proficiency with legal research software such as Westlaw, Pacer, and LexMachina
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and PDF software
