About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build and operationalize complex data solutions
  • Correct problems, apply transformations, and recommend data cleansing and quality solutions
  • Design data solutions
  • Analyze data sources to determine value and recommend data for analytical processes
  • Incorporate data governance, data security, and data quality competencies
  • Collaborate across teams to support delivery and educate end users on data products and analytic environments
  • Perform data and system analysis, assessment, and resolution for moderate-complexity defects and incidents
  • Test data movement, transformation code, and data components
  • Contribute to Business Insurance General Liability and CMP pricing decisions through trusted, production-grade data assets
  • Contribute to modernization efforts and evolving pricing capabilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related STEM field, or equivalent in education and/or work experience
  • Six years of related experience
  • Two additional years of software/data engineering experience
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and model implementation in the cloud
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Experience with data engineering concepts and building/maintaining data pipelines
  • Experience with AI-native solutions and modern software engineering practices, including APIs, microservices, and test automation
  • Ability to deliver high-quality solutions at a steady, predictable pace
  • Ability to deliver complete, robust solutions while managing tradeoffs
  • Strong understanding of relevant technical concepts and industry trends
  • In-depth knowledge of worked-on systems and familiarity with adjacent systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills focused on resilient, long-lived systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience leading or mentoring other engineers and helping create a safe, inclusive environment
  • Self-motivated with a track record of proactively identifying opportunities and driving improvements
  • Preferred, not required: insurance industry experience or exposure, or a strong desire to learn the domain
  • Preferred, not required: Infrastructure as Code and DevOps tooling experience, such as Terraform and CI/CD pipelines
