About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Analyze, investigate, and resolve lower-severity and lower-complexity Bond & Specialty claims
  • Retain, monitor, and manage outside counsel and other vendors
  • Utilize incident response and litigation management plans and budgets
  • Negotiate settlements for lower-severity and lower-complexity litigation matters
  • Prepare management reports on loss development, financial exposure, and resolution strategies
  • Develop and coordinate recovery efforts with the Recovery Management Unit
  • Attend mediations, settlement conferences, trials, depositions, and business meetings as needed
  • Provide legal and business support to underwriting colleagues
  • Negotiate indemnity documentation and draft product forms and endorsements
  • Review contracts and bond forms
  • Support marketing and risk management efforts through broker visits and seminars
  • Support stakeholders and customers throughout the claims process
  • Ensure compliance with BSI Claims processes, procedures, and best practices
  • Maintain thorough claim documentation, claim files, and confidential records
  • Prepare coverage evaluations and correspondence to insureds
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • One to five years of relevant legal or claim handling work experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Juris Doctor Degree
  • Properly licensed, registered or authorized, and in good standing, to practice law in the jurisdiction in which you will be working
  • Acquisition and maintenance of Insurance Adjuster License(s), generally within three months of starting the job
  • Ongoing continuing education credits as mandated for Insurance Adjuster License(s)
  • Maintenance of an active legal license in the state of your principal office location
  • Current with all Continuing Legal Education (CLE)
  • Valid driver’s license or access to alternative means of transportation
  • Ability to effectively work through conflict and resolve issues professionally
  • Ability to make sound decisions and negotiate within designated authority limits
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail, data and analytics
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships
