About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct boiler and pressure vessel inspections in accordance with jurisdictional rules
  • Perform thorough examinations and identify hazardous conditions
  • Apply appropriate codes and standards and recommend corrective actions
  • Submit required inspection reports
  • Manage jurisdictional inspection workload within an assigned territory
  • Prioritize, plan, and schedule work
  • Respond to customer requests and help customers understand and mitigate equipment breakdown risks
  • Perform less complex risk evaluations and evaluate exposures and controls
  • Develop meaningful loss estimates and communicate findings to business partners
  • Investigate less complex Equipment Breakdown claims
  • Evaluate breakdown elements, extent of damage, invoices, and causes of loss
  • Document, communicate, and report findings
  • Work cooperatively with Boiler and Machinery underwriting and claim groups
  • Participate in individual training opportunities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Two years of experience in the boiler and machinery industry or related field, such as plant engineering, power generation, manufacturing operations or maintenance, or relevant military experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must obtain an Inservice Commission (IS) from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors within six months of employment
  • Must have or be able to attain appropriate certification to meet state-specific requirements, where applicable
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical principles
  • Basic knowledge of predictive and preventive maintenance practices
  • Engineering/technical skills necessary to achieve established business goals
  • Ability to utilize Risk Control workstation computer system applications
  • National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector’s Inservice commission
  • Military Boiler or Nuclear Power operator certification
  • Civilian Power Boiler Operation Certificate
  • ANSI NDE Level II Examiner Certification
  • Ability to travel long-distance, overnight, and/or on multi-night trips as needed
  • Ability to spend approximately 20% - 50% of the time onsite with customers
