About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide Underwriting with account knowledge regarding hazards, controls, and management
  • Evaluate how companies identify and manage inherent risk factors
  • Differentiate accounts from others in similar classes of business
  • Maintain a consistent field presence, spending approximately 20%–50% of the time onsite with customers
  • Travel to customers, including possible long-distance, overnight, and multi-night trips
  • Partner with Underwriting to select, retain, and grow a profitable book of business
  • Build and maintain relationships with Underwriting, Claims, Risk Control Specialists, and Brokers
  • Complete risk assessment evaluations for moderate- to highly complex accounts, severe-loss exposures, multi-location companies, and larger fleets
  • Write technically detailed reports assessing risk and articulating recommendations
  • Evaluate customer needs through loss analysis and customer readiness
  • Provide Risk Control products and services to help control losses
  • Identify uncontrolled exposures and influence customers to take corrective actions
  • Provide risk-mitigation solutions using company resources
  • Stay current with technical subjects, regulatory requirements, and emerging issues
  • Create a valued customer experience during assessments and service encounters
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in environmental health and safety, engineering, construction management, basic sciences, or related technical fields
  • Strong knowledge of the insurance industry and business acumen
  • Recognized relevant certifications such as ASP, CSP, ARM, or CFPS
  • Technical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to quickly establish credibility and rapport
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Influencing skills that effectively drive business needs
  • Negotiating change to achieve optimal outcomes
  • Ability to give and receive coaching and feedback
  • Five years of experience in safety, risk control/management, or a related field
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must have or be able to attain appropriate certification to meet state-specific requirements, where applicable
