About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Analyze, investigate, and resolve Bond & Specialty claims of moderate severity and complexity
- Retain, monitor, and manage outside counsel and other vendors
- Utilize incident response and litigation management plans and budgets
- Negotiate settlements for litigation matters
- Prepare management reports on loss development, financial exposure, and resolution strategies
- Develop and coordinate recovery efforts with the Recovery Management Unit
- Attend mediations, settlement conferences, trials, depositions, and business meetings
- Provide legal and business support to underwriting colleagues
- Negotiate indemnity documentation and draft product forms and endorsements
- Review contracts and bond forms
- Support marketing and risk management efforts through broker visits and seminars
- Monitor industry trends and market dynamics and communicate insights and strategic initiatives
- Coach, mentor, and provide strategic guidance to entry-level claim professionals
- Ensure stakeholders and customers feel secure, respected, and cared for throughout the claims process
- Ensure compliance with BSI Claims processes, procedures, and best practices
- Maintain thorough documentation of claim activities, decisions, and communications
- Prepare coverage evaluations and correspondence to insureds
- Maintain claim files according to company best practices
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Six or more years of relevant legal or claim handling work experience
- Strong ability to work through conflict and resolve issues professionally
- Strong decision-making and negotiation skills within designated authority limits
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including articulating coverage determinations
- Strong time management and ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail, data, and analytics
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Juris Doctor Degree
- Properly licensed, registered or authorized, and in good standing, to practice law in the jurisdiction in which you will be working
- Three years of relevant legal experience
- Valid driver’s license or access to alternative transportation
- Insurance Adjuster License(s) required, generally obtained within three months of starting; ongoing continuing education required
- Active legal license in the state of the principal office location and current Continuing Legal Education (CLE) required
