About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct moderate to complex legal research and analyses
- Prepare legal documents
- Assist with legal case preparation and file management
- Draft motions for summary judgment, discovery responses, subpoenas, and privilege logs
- Prepare and execute affidavits
- Summarize deposition transcripts and assist with deposition and trial preparation
- Prepare exhibits and demonstrative evidence
- Assist attorneys with trial strategy and preparation
- Categorize and interpret data and analyze reports, responses, and records
- Conduct investigations and interviews
- Coordinate requests between parties involved in litigation
- Identify and instruct subject matter experts
- Prepare and publish legal holds
- Prepare case summaries and case analysis reports
- Subpoena records
- Coordinate with Document Management to obtain underwriting files and certified policies
- Provide testimony at depositions or trial, including as a corporate designee
- Locate archived materials and work with Claim and Underwriting Units to locate legacy company manuals and guidelines
- Review and process bills for payment
- Capture and record billable time
- Use technology to respond to discovery requests
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree
- Paralegal or litigation experience
- Insurance related experience
- General knowledge of Medical Terminology
- Highly proficient in legal research software such as Westlaw and PACER
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and PDF software
- Advanced grammar and writing skills
- Intermediate knowledge of general law office procedures
- Advanced knowledge of local court/jurisdiction rules and procedures
- Advanced research and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to manage time and tasks
- Ability to learn proprietary software systems
- Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-Certified program
- 5 years experience as a paralegal or related experience
