About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide expert onsite consulting to customers across the region regarding risk exposures and loss controls
  • Support underwriting execution and processes
  • Maintain a consistent field presence, spending approximately 20%–50% of the time with customers onsite or virtually
  • Travel to customers, including possible long-distance, overnight, and multi-night trips
  • Conduct highly complex risk evaluations for Travelers customers
  • Identify exposures, loss controls, and opportunities for improved risk management
  • Share findings with Underwriting to support effective risk pricing
  • Educate customers on risk management and influence adoption of recommended changes
  • Mentor Risk Control consultants and less experienced Specialists
  • Review survey reports for accuracy and thoroughness through peer reviews
  • Help newer Specialists prepare for customer surveys
  • Provide guidance and feedback on technical matters
  • Study emerging issues and track loss trends in claim data
  • Attend industry conferences occasionally
  • Deliver targeted training to Risk Control consultants, Specialists, customers, and business partners
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering discipline
  • Eight or more years of experience with demonstrated expertise within the property risk control/engineering discipline
  • Six years of risk assessment/consulting experience within the property discipline or fire protection industry
  • Certification in one or more recognized risk control disciplines such as PE or CFPS
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Coaching and talent development skills, including mentoring, motivating others, and providing feedback
  • Expert understanding of risk control's role in commercial lines insurance products, services, and risk selection practices
  • Expert interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Expert organizational and time management skills
