About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Represent clients’ interests in litigation of disputed Workers Compensation claims
- Provide client services as part of a legal team
- Independently handle a full to moderate caseload from case inception through trial/resolution
- Handle hearings, court events, and other appointments as jurisdictionally appropriate
- Conduct legal research
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other file documents
- Interpret and analyze medical reports, bills, and invoices
- Provide disability ratings and/or Official Medical Fee Schedules where applicable
- Recommend case handling strategies and provide case analysis to business partners and clients
- Build and maintain internal and external client relationships
- Complete time reporting, closed cases, and other administrative tasks
- Use and adapt to technology, case management systems, and legal-practice automation
- Meet annual billable hour expectations
- Perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree or law degree
- 7+ years of workers compensation claim or legal experience
- 5+ years hearing representative experience with strong litigation focus
- Strong understanding of jurisdiction’s Workers Compensation law and litigation procedures
- High proficiency in legal research software (e.g. Westlaw, Pacer) and Microsoft Office
- Strong and persuasive legal writing and oral advocacy skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong evaluation and negotiation skills
- Ability to work independently and effectively with others in a team environment
- Ability to analyze legal issues with minimal supervision
- Ability to clearly and succinctly articulate position
- Ability to understand, utilize, and adapt to technology, case management systems, and automation resources
- Knowledge of various jurisdictional rules for Workers Compensation law and litigation procedures
- Creative problem-solving and analytical skills
- 5 years of workers compensation claim or legal experience; or 2 years Hearing Representative experience with strong litigation focus; or Juris Doctorate
