About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform routine and emergency maintenance on plant instrumentation, control, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Provide technical troubleshooting and resolve plant instrumentation, control, electrical, and mechanical system issues
- Inspect, repair, install, and remove motors, generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, motor-control equipment, cabling, buswork, and storage batteries
- Work on electrical systems up to and including 4160 volts
- Tune and calibrate boiler controls and turbine controls and valve actuators
- Maintain and calibrate plant instrumentation
- Document instrumentation, control, electrical, and mechanical maintenance history
- Maintain Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems in accordance with state and federal guidelines
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electronic, pneumatic, analyzer, computer, PLC, and instrumentation systems
- Maintain and repair rotating equipment, turbines, generators, pumps, fans, bearings, seals, couplings, and related mechanical systems
- Maintain heat recovery steam generators, piping systems, lube-oil, hydraulic-oil, and filtration systems
- Keep electrical and controls P&IDs current and revise them as necessary
- Research and coordinate parts procurement with vendors and site administrative staff
- Gain basic operational knowledge of plant systems and operate equipment within specifications
- Stand in as a balance-of-plant operator when needed
- Respond to unit trips, abnormal operating conditions, call-outs, outages, and other emergent situations
- Work scheduled shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and as-needed call-outs
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 4–6 years' experience in an industrial environment required
- Demonstrated experience with industrial electrical equipment troubleshooting and maintenance
- Knowledge of electrical systems up to and including 4160 volts
- Knowledge of station high-voltage switching and relaying equipment
- General electrical and mechanical abilities for equipment repair, replacement, station mechanical operations, and minor modification projects
- General knowledge or understanding of instrumentation calibrations
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Must successfully pass the Plant Operator Selection System/Power Plant Operations and Maintenance (POSS/MASS) program
- Ability to read and comprehend mechanical and electrical drawings, specifically P&IDs
- Familiarity with lockout/tagout and personal protective equipment procedures
- Must pass a respiratory physical and wear required safety equipment
- Ability to visually read and respond to computer-generated data, instrumentation, gauges, readouts, and color variations
- Manual dexterity to operate keyboards, push buttons, dials, valves, and mechanically actuated devices
- Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, climb ladders, lift up to 50 pounds, work at extreme heights, and work in confined spaces
- Must attend on-site and off-site training
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate station vehicles and heavy equipment
- Desired: experience maintaining electrical equipment up to 4160 V; 18 KV and 230 KV equipment; instrumentation and controls; combined-cycle plant processes; GE 7FA combustion turbines; GE D11 steam turbines; rigging and crane/hoist operations; hand tools and technical shop test equipment; electric plant water-treatment systems; powerhouse mechanical equipment; microprocessor-based systems, DCS, PLCs, smart relays, smart transmitters, databases, workstations, and office software
- Two-year Electrical/Mechanical Technology Degree preferred (not required)
