Key responsibilities & impact
  • Deliver patient-centered care through specific aspects of the nursing process under the direction of a Registered Nurse
  • Perform nursing interventions delegated by the Registered Nurse
  • Obtain clinical data from patients, families, or significant others
  • Use interdisciplinary plans of care, including medication administration
  • Administer medications orally, rectally, intramuscularly, or subcutaneously
  • Monitor medication effects and record medications and patient reactions
  • Perform venipuncture, blood cultures, bleeding times, and blood specimen collection
  • Start, prime, disconnect, and regulate IV lines
  • Perform tracheal suctioning, NMTs, routine oxygen therapy, and pulse oximetry
  • Flush intermittent infusion devices
  • Insert and discontinue indwelling and intermittent urinary catheters
  • Perform neurovascular and neurologic checks
  • Respond to patient requests and explain the patient care role
  • Maintain knowledge of policies and procedures and participate in quality-care activities
  • Answer phones and maintain a clean environment
  • Pursue ongoing learning and maintain current practice knowledge
  • Clean and maintain equipment and supplies
  • Maintain cooperative relationships and help resolve problems
  • Maintain patient, physician, colleague, and visitor confidentiality
  • Follow the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and organizational mission, vision, and values
  • Perform duties safely and report hazards and unsafe practices
  • Participate in nursing or hospital research projects by assisting with data collection
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent and one year of specialized nursing education
  • 2 years previous experience
  • Active license to practice as LPN
  • Ability to apply nursing techniques within defined responsibilities to meet patient and family needs
  • Awareness of the New York State Nurse Practice Act, the role of LPNs, and relationship to RNs
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, families, and coworkers
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for over 50% of work time
  • Ability to walk and stand for approximately 51% to 80% of work time
  • Ability to lift, turn, and position patients frequently
