About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide strategic leadership for all development efforts for Loyola Medicine and the Health Sciences Division
  • Develop short-term and long-range strategic philanthropy plans focused on major and planned giving
  • Advance capital, project, program and research funding priorities
  • Collaborate with the Health System CEO, Provost for Health Sciences and Deans to secure transformational gifts
  • Manage a significant portfolio of donors and prospects
  • Recruit, retain, develop, mentor and supervise the development team
  • Engage health system leaders, deans, physicians, volunteers and community allies in cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
  • Present Loyola Medicine’s vision and case for support to community and donor constituencies
  • Use systematic, data-driven processes to evaluate donor capacity and interests and manage relationships
  • Apply benchmarking and metrics to assess and refine development programs
  • Ensure donor acknowledgement, recognition and impact stewardship
  • Coordinate with Accounting and Finance to ensure gifts are properly booked and documented
  • Advise leaders and colleagues on development management trends and benchmarks
  • Oversee the annual operating budget and plan
  • Provide routine progress reports on goals and key gifts
  • Participate actively in the civic and community life of Chicagoland
  • Undertake other duties to advance philanthropy for Loyola Medicine and the Health Sciences Division

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in nonprofit management, philanthropic studies, journalism, communications, marketing, business or another related field required
  • 6–10 years of previous job-related experience
  • 10 years’ experience as a development executive within a sophisticated, comprehensive development program preferred
  • At least 5 years as Chief Development Officer, Foundation President, VP of Philanthropy or similar executive role preferred
  • At least 5 years of recent development experience in a healthcare system or significant healthcare facility
  • Demonstrated experience orchestrating, soliciting and closing principal and major gifts at the six-, seven- and eight-figure level
  • Demonstrated success in a leadership role for a campaign of $25 Million+
  • Professional fundraising certification (CFRE, FAHP or equivalent)
  • Active involvement in advancing the philanthropy profession at a national level
  • Five years of managerial experience
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data
  • Ability to compile complex reports and develop presentations
  • Ability to compose letters and memorandums
  • Ability to lead work teams and manage multiple projects
  • Ability to negotiate, persuade and establish direction
  • Ability to communicate, present and listen effectively
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, accuracy and consistency
  • Genuine commitment to the organization and its healthcare mission
  • Deep understanding of healthcare fund development programs
  • Experience with capital campaign design, implementation and completion
  • Knowledge of planned giving instruments and other complex gifts
  • Understanding of IRS regulations and tax laws applicable to charitable giving
  • Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities
  • Must be able to travel as needed to various Trinity Health sites
