About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct initial patient examinations
- Perform prophylaxis, dental x-rays, polishing, and fluoride treatment
- Advise patients on oral health and preventative care
- Complete paperless documentation of patients' medical history, vitals, and progress notes
- Decontaminate and sterilize dental instruments
- Decontaminate treatment rooms
- Work collaboratively with dental residents to provide coordinated, interdependent, patient-centered oral health care services
- Follow St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center and primary care center policies and protocols
- Participate in orientation and continuing education
- Report to Dental Managers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited school of dental hygiene
- Licensed with current registration to practice in New York State
- Minimum of one year experience as a hygienist in a general dental practice or health care agency is preferred
- Good communication skills
- Excellent technical skills
- Must be able to make independent and interdependent decisions
- Must be able to handle emergency situations
- Good time management skills
- Medium work: requires standing, walking, sitting, and lifting
