About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide exceptional customer service to patients, physicians, and staff
- Facilitate transfer of care between primary care providers and specialists
- Collaborate with multiple clinics to utilize resources while accommodating physician preference and patient needs
- Navigate and negotiate tracking and coordination of referrals
- Collect and accurately enter referral and patient information
- Communicate with patients, families, referring clinics, physicians, and physician offices
- Maintain ongoing tracking and documentation of referrals for timely processing and patient safety
- Contact insurance companies to ensure prior approval requirements are met
- Inform patients and physician offices of referral status
- Maintain patient confidentiality according to HIPAA standards
- Use multiple software platforms and electronic health record systems simultaneously
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience in hospital, medical or insurance office setting preferred
- Working knowledge of medical terminology and the healthcare system, including insurances, Medicare, Medicaid, and physician office operations preferred
- Computer skills including MS Office products and insurance site management
- EPIC preferred
- Ability to work in multiple software applications and electronic health record systems simultaneously
- Well-developed English verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality according to HIPAA standards
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
- Demonstrated listening skills, independent problem solving, decision-making, and critical thinking skills
