About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Define and drive the vision and software architecture for internal AI/ML platforms across Twilio’s business functions
  • Set and communicate long-term architectural vision, aligning teams and leadership
  • Lead cross-product architecture reviews, standardize engineering practices, and drive foundational technical investments
  • Solve complex, ambiguous technical challenges at platform and company-wide scale
  • Mentor and guide principal and staff engineers
  • Partner with product, engineering, and executive leaders on strategic direction and technical investments
  • Establish and model a high-performance software engineering culture
  • Collaborate globally with business teams and GTM leadership
  • Present AI Engineering plans and deliverables to executive leadership
  • Lead creation and deployment of AI-powered solutions using GenAI
  • Build custom AI applications, including RAG-based chatbots, agentic workflows, and AI-powered automations
  • Lead cross-team efforts to troubleshoot and resolve complex AI/ML application issues
  • Work across Support, Sales, Marketing, Operations, and other verticals to implement AI/ML solutions
  • Cultivate a team of builders and owners

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 15+ years of experience designing and scaling distributed systems and platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to set technical vision and strategy at an enterprise or company-wide level
  • Expertise in system design, reliability, scalability, security, and cost optimization for large-scale architectures
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and resolving highly complex, ambiguous technical problems
  • Proven record of mentoring senior engineering talent and elevating organizational standards
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, influence, and leadership skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Remote and based in Ontario, British Columbia, or Alberta, Canada
  • May be required to travel occasionally for project or team in-person meetings
