About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Retain Pool membership by building and maintaining strong relationships with insured members
- Act as a trusted advisor on health benefit design decisions within budgetary constraints
- Promote member engagement and loyalty by explaining Pool value, benefits, and programs that improve outcomes and lower costs
- Use a consultative approach to understand member needs and develop recommendations
- Conduct pre-renewal strategic discussions, performance reporting, renewal negotiations, and customer service activities
- Work closely with the Account Manager on member service issues, renewals, reporting packages, and presentation decks
- Develop relationships with Benefit Coordinators, decision makers, groups, brokers, and consultants
- Conduct quarterly, semi-annual, and pre-renewal reviews; interpret claims reports and provide personalized recommendations
- Coordinate, delegate, follow up, and track service issues through resolution
- Communicate member-group and broker relationship changes and potential opportunities to marketing leadership
- Provide competitive analysis and market-vulnerability feedback to sales and marketing leadership
- Attend regional and council meetings, bid openings, TXHB Board Meetings, and other requested meetings
- Educate Benefit Coordinators and promote webinars, training, wellness events, and regional meetings
- Maintain accurate daily documentation in Salesforce, the Member Database, and other appropriate systems
- Set up, refer, and track cases through resolution
- Conduct open enrollment meetings covering member education, enrollment, and benefit updates
- Protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of TXHB information and records in accordance with security and privacy policies
- Assist with new projects and other assigned departmental duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- Required Texas General Lines license—life, accident, health, and HMO Insurance License
- 3–5 years of experience in sales, account management, or benefit plan management for fully insured health benefits and/or insurance products
- 3–5 years of experience working with a variety of healthcare plans and administrative services
- Familiarity with the general healthcare underwriting process for fully insured group health plans
- Strong working knowledge of the changing vendor landscape, including new marketplace entrants and cutting-edge products and solutions
- Preferred 5 years of experience servicing or selling group health benefits administration, stoploss and/or insurance products
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent healthcare/benefits/insurance environment experience, or combination thereof, for self-insured and fully insured groups
- Experience guiding benefit design decisions and funding strategy
- Valid Texas driver’s license and ability to drive throughout the state for in-person visits
- Proven success renewing and retaining a client’s book of business
- Ability to develop strategic competitive market analysis
- Ability to compile, analyze, and evaluate complex information, including claims data and reporting
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and/or public speaking skills
- Ability to facilitate collaborative teamwork, with supportive leadership and mentoring skills
- Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and strong follow-through
- Ability to meet sales/service requirements at the corresponding range criteria percentile
- Frequent travel, including overnight stays within Texas; expected travel 2–3 days per week on average
- Full proficiency in Salesforce and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Technical ability to use TXHB online to look up group information and review historical documentation
- Thorough knowledge of underwriting procedures for financing arrangements and benefit structures, including PPO, HMO, and HDHPs
- Thorough understanding of TXHB medical, pharmacy, surgery, vision, dental, spending account, and Consumer Directed Health benefits and services
- Practical knowledge of COBRA, HIPAA, Personal Health Information (PHI), and related compliance regulations
- Ability to speak/hear clearly, frequently stand, sit, and walk, lift/move up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds occasionally, and travel regularly
