About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the development, implementation, and administration of hog procurement programs for Tyson Fresh Meats
  • Represent Tyson at state and national industry events
  • Serve as backup to the Vice President of Hog Procurement
  • Evaluate procurement relationships with independent suppliers
  • Develop innovative cutout-based, lean-index, and CME-based pricing programs
  • Oversee ongoing program administration and make decisions on supplier-related issues
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Procurement, area supervisors, and Accounting
  • Maintain supplier relationships through communication and networking with suppliers, buyers, and area supervisors
  • Manage in-plant procurement activities
  • Manage buyer and production staffing
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and address disciplinary matters
  • Supervise plant and field procurement staff
  • Execute written contracts and manage the contract database

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • College degree or equivalent experience in hog procurement
  • 5 plus years as an area procurement supervisor
  • Previous buying experience with good overall industry knowledge
  • Minimum of 10 years of pork procurement, production, or operations
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Frequent travel is required
  • Good organization skills, detail oriented and strong analytical skills
  • Written contracts execution as well as management of contract database
  • Willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation
