About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own accounting processes for assigned products, portfolios, legal entities, and business activities, including complex journal entries, reconciliations, workpapers, and period-end reporting
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory reporting requirements, internal accounting policies, and SOX and regulatory controls
- Analyze financial results, trends, unusual transactions, and accounting issues
- Identify risks, control deficiencies, process gaps, and appropriate solutions
- Support audits and regulatory examinations and maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready documentation
- Serve as an accounting subject matter expert
- Support strategic initiatives and accounting assessments
- Communicate conclusions to financial and non-financial stakeholders
- Drive automation, standardization, process redesign, and department-wide transformation efforts in partnership with Technology and Operations
- Coach and train team members, review work, provide feedback, and promote knowledge sharing and best practices
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent work experience
- Eight or more years of experience in financial accounting activities
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
- Considerable knowledge of GAAP, accounting, reporting, analysis, and other regulations
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to analyze data, identify exceptions, research complex accounting issues, and develop effective solutions
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, manage multiple priorities, and navigate ambiguity
- Experience leading projects, improving and automating processes, and mentoring team members
- Ability to communicate complex accounting concepts clearly to financial and non-financial audiences
- Applicants must be able to comply with U.S. Bank policies and procedures including the Code of Ethics and Business Conduct and related workplace conduct and safety policies
