About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Source pharmaceutical products within the UK and worldwide to support client-base expansion
  • Ensure compliance with importation requirements
  • Negotiate prices with manufacturers and expand the product portfolio
  • Quote customers and build supplier relationships
  • Work with sales, operations, quality, regulatory, and finance stakeholders
  • Research and identify new products and suppliers
  • Find alternatives for difficult-to-source products
  • Maintain supplier relationships to ensure product availability and best pricing
  • Maximise inter-group purchases
  • Monitor supplier performance, volumes, pricing, and lead times
  • Support the PS team with unlicensed demand in the UK market
  • Monitor stock levels, expiry dates, supply disruptions, and excess stock
  • Act as the main supplier point of contact and expand import/export lines
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and finance teams
  • Ensure procurement complies with European and international trade and customs regulations
  • Maintain purchasing and sales records and produce procurement, supplier, customer, and market reports
  • Work with the quality team on QMS compliance, training records, and supplier/customer qualifications
  • Create items and update internal documents
  • Chase outstanding supplier orders
  • Run transaction and shortage-line reports
  • Raise purchase orders
  • Run reports for shortage lines and products on the export ban list

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Proven experience as a Buyer, Procurement Specialist, or similar role (minimum 3-5 years)
  • Knowledge and experience of trade regulations, import/export procedures, and customs laws would be an advantage
  • Strong work ethic, resilience, and drive
  • Ability to work in an entrepreneurial culture requiring rapid response and quick, sound decisions
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Analytical mindset and ability to work with large sets of data and make informed decisions
  • Familiarity with procurement software and ERP systems (e.g. Exact, SAP, Oracle)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Fluency in English is essential
  • Additional European languages (e.g., French, German, Spanish, Italian) are a strong plus
  • Detail-oriented and highly organised
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing market conditions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proactive approach to sourcing, relationship management, and process improvements
  • Role based out of one of Uniphar's headquarters in Ireland or the UK
