About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, configure, and support IBM MQ clusters
  • Manage workload balancing, high availability, cluster maintenance, and cluster troubleshooting
  • Set up and support IBM MQ Managed File Transfer (MFT)
  • Perform routine MQ maintenance, including log management, queue manager tuning, security maintenance, backups/restores, patching, and performance tuning
  • Plan, execute, test, and validate MQ version upgrades, including rolling upgrades in clustered environments
  • Automate MQ administration, deployments, monitoring alert actions, log analysis, environment deployments, and health checks using PowerShell and Linux shell scripting
  • Implement and manage MQ monitoring solutions using enterprise tools, MQ APIs, command-line tools, and custom scripts
  • Debug MQ applications by analyzing message flows, diagnosing blocked or orphaned connections, resolving delivery delays, interpreting MQRC errors, and tracing root causes
  • Advise application teams on MQ best practices, message flow optimization, and integration design
  • Maintain configuration standards, operational procedures, and upgrade/migration guides

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong experience designing, configuring, and supporting IBM MQ Clusters, including workload balancing, high availability, cluster maintenance, and troubleshooting cluster-specific issues
  • Proficiency with IBM MQ Managed File Transfer (MFT), including setup, agent configuration, resource monitors, coordination queue managers, and secure file movement design
  • Deep knowledge of MQ maintenance activities, including log file management, queue manager tuning, security configuration maintenance, backup/restore procedures, and patch application
  • Hands-on experience performing MQ version upgrades, including multi-node upgrade planning, compatibility testing, rolling upgrades in clustered environments, and post-upgrade validation
  • PowerShell scripting experience for automating administrative tasks in Windows-based MQ environments
  • Linux shell scripting proficiency, including bash and ksh, for MQ automation, log analysis, environment deployments, and cluster routines
  • Ability to build automated routines for MQ deployments, monitoring alert actions, and MQ health checks
  • Ability to develop custom monitoring scripts leveraging MQ APIs or command-line tools
  • Advanced MQ application debugging skills, including message flow analysis, diagnosing blocked or orphaned connections, resolving message delivery delays, interpreting MQRC error codes, and tracing root causes in distributed environments
  • Solid understanding of messaging patterns and MQ security, including TLS, CHLAUTH rules, and connection authentication
  • Experience working in enterprise environments requiring strict change control
  • Ability to collaborate with application teams on MQ best practices, message flow optimization, and integration design
  • Strong documentation skills for configuration standards, operational procedures, and upgrade/migration guides
