About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Identify opportunities to streamline repetitive or manual accounting and gift-processing activities
  • Assist with implementing automation and AI-supported tools to improve accuracy, efficiency, reconciliation, and reporting
  • Strengthen integration between the CRM, Sage Intacct, banking platforms, and other systems
  • Test and validate new processes, reports, system enhancements, and automated workflows
  • Process and review pledges, payments, grants, and other revenue transactions
  • Reconcile pledge and payment activity across source documentation, CRM records, banking information, and the general ledger
  • Research and resolve discrepancies, posting issues, unapplied activity, and revenue-related exceptions
  • Review transaction coding, supporting documentation, and financial data
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities
  • Maintain supporting documentation and audit trails
  • Collaborate with Gift Processing, Development/Strategic Partnerships, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, IT, and other internal teams
  • Prepare, validate, and import pledge and payment files into the CRM
  • Process third-party campaign files and revenue submissions
  • Perform pre- and post-import quality assurance
  • Support campaign setup, administration, closeout, reporting, annualization estimates, and rollover calculations
  • Prepare payroll deduction, campaign, and revenue reports
  • Respond to inquiries about pledges, payments, campaigns, agency payouts, and transaction status
  • Execute quarterly and manual designated payout processes
  • Perform pre-payout reviews, transaction adjustments, allocation processing, and financial validations
  • Prepare and import payout vouchers into Sage Intacct
  • Prepare EFT files and support check processing for agency distributions
  • Research and resolve returned EFTs, stale or returned checks, and payment exceptions
  • Perform regular reconciliations of pledge, payment, payout, and revenue activity
  • Strengthen internal controls and support audit requests
  • Cross-train on Gift Processing functions
  • Document procedures and update process documentation
  • Maintain confidentiality of donor, partner, and financial information

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, required
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience required
  • Demonstrated experience in financial process improvement operations required
  • Able to work from the DTLA office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and additional days as needed
  • Commitment to continued learning on racial equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Curiosity about emerging technology and artificial intelligence
  • Hands-on experience processing and reconciling financial transactions
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and internal controls
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets
  • Ability to research discrepancies across multiple systems
  • Ability to manage recurring deadlines and prioritize in a high-volume environment
  • Sound judgment when handling confidential donor, banking, and financial information
  • Nice-to-have: experience in revenue accounting, accounts receivable, cash application, or contribution processing
  • Nice-to-have: experience with nonprofit contribution accounting, including pledges, restricted and unrestricted gifts, workplace giving, or donor-designated funds
  • Nice-to-have: experience with Sage Intacct or another cloud accounting system alongside a CRM or fundraising database
  • Nice-to-have: experience with ACH/EFT files and high-volume disbursements
  • Ability to document processes clearly and train or cross-train others
  • Clear communication and collaboration across Finance, Development, IT, and other departments
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams
