About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support compensation and classification activities through consultation, reporting, and analysis
  • Review and approve compensation and classification requests
  • Maintain classification policies, procedures, and programs
  • Participate in compensation surveys and market-pricing activities
  • Leverage HR and compensation data to support decision-making, compliance, and organizational goals
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports, metrics, and analyses for institutional and regulatory reporting
  • Conduct compensation analysis and consultation regarding program direction
  • Conduct classification and compensation studies using market data and recommend improvements
  • Create and revise standard job descriptions
  • Liaise with HR staff, review and analyze data, and recommend solutions for routine pay scenarios
  • Contribute to strategic compensation and classification initiatives
  • Maintain and evaluate the compensation program and recommend improvements
  • Maintain reports, dashboards, and data visualization tools
  • Retrieve, analyze, and research institutional data
  • Analyze and interpret data to support business decisions
  • Serve as liaison for HR reporting, compliance, external surveys, and institutional statistics
  • Audit data and propose solutions
  • Manage membership participation for UWSA and organizations such as MarketPay and CUPAHR
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two years of experience in compensation, HR analytics, human resources, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, validate, and interpret HR or compensation-related data and present findings in a clear and actionable manner
  • Experience working with HRIS or compensation systems
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, data validation, and data analysis techniques
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to provide compensation consultation, reporting, and analytical support
  • Knowledge of compensation administration principles and procedures
  • Knowledge of job analysis and job evaluation principles, methods, and procedures
  • Knowledge of federal and state wage and salary laws and regulations
  • Strong analytical skills, including validating and interpreting HR data, identifying trends, and communicating findings
  • Ability to interpret and apply compensation and classification policies, procedures, and guidelines consistently
  • Knowledge of Universities of Wisconsin employee classifications, compensation structures, and HR business processes
  • Ability to ensure eligibility to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
