About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Coordinate a pre-college service program
  • Support educational and academic support services for low-income and potential first-generation college students on campus and at the target high school
  • Design and draft program-specific educational materials and resources
  • Develop, facilitate, and evaluate pre-college program content and materials
  • Identify opportunities for program improvement or new service development
  • Schedule, secure, and communicate logistics and resources for program events and conferences
  • Organize and chaperone college visits, academic enrichment field trips, and program excursions
  • Assist with supervision of student workers, tutors, and others
  • Support daily office operations and front-line communication with students, families, and visitors
  • Assist with student recruitment, supplemental advising, academic coaching, mentoring, and counseling
  • Maintain academic records, files, and reports
  • Manage a student caseload and develop individualized educational plans
  • Monitor academic progress through grades, transcripts, assessments, and tutoring participation
  • Liaise between Washington Technology Magnet and the university
  • Assist the Project Director with interviewing, selecting, training, and evaluating program staff
  • Assist with planning and coordination to simulate the college experience
  • Provide office presence and programming at Washington Technology Magnet during the academic year
  • Support some evening and weekend activities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree required in education, social work, counseling, higher education administration, or related field
  • Experience working with high school and/or college students, low income, first-generation, underrepresented, and/or educationally disadvantaged student populations
  • Experience designing and facilitating educational workshops, programming, or group activities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Employment will require a criminal background check
  • Must answer questions regarding sexual violence and sexual harassment for the applicant, most recent employer, and applicable Universities of Wisconsin and State of Wisconsin agency employers from the past seven years
  • Preferred: Knowledge of or experience working with U.S. Department of Labor TRIO programs
  • Preferred: Experience with program evaluation, data collection, databases, and reporting systems
  • Preferred: Experience conducting outreach and recruitment in school or community-based settings
  • Preferred: Demonstrated commitment to educational access, equity, and student success
  • Preferred: At least two (2) years of experience working in a high school and/or higher education setting
