About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and produce graduate and undergraduate credit and non-credit online courses
- Apply online learning pedagogical and andragogical best practices to digital builds
- Collaborate with Instructional Designers, Project Managers, academic leads, instructors, and subject matter experts
- Recommend and create activities, interactives, branching scenarios, gamification, and multimedia to increase learner engagement
- Design templates, course homepages, reusable course templates, navigation, layout, and branding
- Build and style courses directly in Canvas using native LMS features, HTML, and inline CSS
- Integrate third-party assets such as Articulate Rise, Storyline, and Vyond
- Create presentations, podcasts, pressbooks, audio, animations, custom graphics, and interactive learning objects
- Curate, adapt, and lightly edit existing multimedia
- Set up discussion forums, quizzes, polls, peer reviews, formative assessments, gradebooks, and rubrics
- Integrate library resources, e-texts, OERs, and other digital assets
- Conduct quality assurance, accessibility, responsiveness, functionality, usability, and user acceptance testing
- Version-control learning objects and manage digital course content for reuse
- Troubleshoot and resolve course functionality issues and document workflows and guidelines
- Report weekly on development task status and time spent
- Research emerging technologies and participate in professional development, communities of practice, and conferences
Requirements
What you’ll need- An Undergraduate degree in educational technology, design, instructional design, adult education or a related field is required
- A diploma with strong online course development and multimedia experience may be considered
- A minimum of two years of developing online courses and multimedia is required
- Hands-on proficiency writing HTML and inline CSS using code editors like VS Code
- Experience using course authoring tools and media software such as Articulate Rise/Storyline, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Vyond
- AI literacy, including comfort using AI tools ethically and appropriately within design workflows
- Experience building custom courses directly within Learning Management Systems such as Canvas
- Experience supporting and including Indigenous Initiatives and Access, Community and Belonging across the digital learning experience
- Exceptional creativity and ability to develop enriched, innovative online learning using varied modalities, technologies, and multimedia
- Multimedia portfolio including graphics, animations, audio, or other multimedia work
- Knowledge and experience with accessibility guidelines, UDL, and digital LX/UX
- Familiarity with copyright legislation, fair use guidelines, Creative Commons licensing, and intellectual property rights
- Ability to conduct quality assurance reviews and user acceptance testing
- Technical skills to resolve technical issues related to digital builds and multimedia
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
