About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide consultation, education and advice to employees on benefit program offerings, plan costs, election options, enrollment, changes, terminations, family eligibility and coordination
- Review and manage daily event maintenance and open enrollment processes in the Benefits Administration module
- Prepare daily reports to ensure employees make correct benefit selections after hire, rehire, promotion or transfer
- Enroll employees in optional benefits upon receipt of completed forms
- Meet with employees to process benefit changes related to retirement, termination and other significant life events
- Advise employees on benefits impacts of maternity and parental leave, partial leave, illness leave, vacation leave, disability, termination, layoff and retirement
- Prepare premium calculations for employees pre-paying benefits during unpaid leave
- Consult with third-party benefit providers and employees to resolve coverage and claims issues
- Administer annual benefit programs, including academic child care, student declarations, health spending accounts and personal spending accounts
- Work with Functional Analysts to define business and reporting requirements and maintain benefit and pension plans and PeopleSoft HCM functionality
- Manage member terminations and retirements in Ben Plus/EOS for UAPP and PSPP
- Coordinate year-end pension reporting and validate and update pension data
- Review benefit rate and program table changes and perform testing to confirm expected requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Completion of a related post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree
- Experience with UAPP, PSPP, LAPP or other defined contribution pension plans is required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required
- Exemplary client service orientation
- Cooperative and productive workstyle with diverse teams and clients
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Ability to manage time and resources effectively and work within strict deadlines
- Human Resources Management certificate, diploma or degree and/or CEBS, PPAC, or equivalent designation(s) and experience are desirable
- Two to four years of experience working with benefit and pension plans in a large, unionized employer is desirable
- Experience with PeopleSoft HCM, including Base Benefits, Benefit Administration, Payroll for North America and PS Query, is an asset
- Knowledge of U of A HR policy, collective agreements and legislation is preferred
- Experience in post-secondary or unionized environments is preferred
