About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Coordinate projects within Dr. Sadie Deschenes’s and Dr. Sarah Andersen’s research programs
  • Support ongoing research initiatives and facilitate project management
  • Oversee timelines, maintain effective team communication, and integrate project components to achieve program objectives
  • Assist with grant development for future research competitions
  • Perform administrative and research tasks
  • Facilitate research ethics submissions and ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain research documentation and organize project materials
  • Coordinate participant recruitment and consent processes, as applicable
  • Track budget expenditures and provide updates to the supervisor
  • Manage research deliverables, milestones, project plans, and deadlines
  • Coordinate project activities and conduct regular team follow-ups
  • Contribute to report writing and prepare initial drafts for supervisor review
  • Support grant application development and dissemination of research findings
  • Assist with quantitative and qualitative data analysis under supervisor guidance
  • Schedule and organize program meetings and record minutes
  • Manage program communications and administrative files
  • Format and submit manuscripts to academic journals and handle ethics applications or renewals
  • Support workshop planning, logistics, room bookings, and team travel arrangements
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing, skill development, onboarding, and mentorship within the research program
  • Participate in project planning, team meetings, data synthesis, and interpretation of findings

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master’s degree in a related discipline such as Nursing, Sociology, Indigenous studies, Community Health or Public Health is required
  • Training in qualitative and/or quantitative social or health science research methods
  • Experience coordinating social/health science research projects
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and writing ability
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated initiative, independence, organization and productivity
  • Asset: background in nursing or a health sciences profession
  • Asset: research experience in qualitative methods research
  • Asset: research experience in mixed-method research or various types of knowledge synthesis approaches
  • Asset: experience in research focused on clinical settings, particularly Critical Care (ICU)
  • Asset: experience with NVivo, SPSS, STATA, and/or SAS
  • Asset: experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or Indigenous research methods
  • Asset: familiarity with the University of Alberta administrative structure, policies and procedures about research
