About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage a caseload of students with varied needs and priorities
  • Develop care plans supporting student independence and student-identified needs, goals, and mental health concerns
  • Provide social work services within the ACSW professional scope of practice
  • Assess student needs and triage requests for mental health and wellness services
  • Coordinate collaborative care between campus and community partners
  • Ensure seamless service transitions, regulatory compliance, and student autonomy
  • Maintain accurate student records and data using the designated electronic medical system
  • Conduct outreach activities supporting campus mental health
  • Develop and facilitate psychoeducational workshops and presentations
  • Provide consultations to staff and faculty
  • Build and maintain relationships across campus and community networks
  • Collaborate with social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, physicians, and campus and community partners

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Social Work Degree is required, with consideration given to lived experience and work experience
  • Proven experience and/or expertise in social work and standards compliance, case management, crisis intervention, prevention work, supportive counselling/advising, and interdisciplinary team navigation
  • Working knowledge of mental health and suicide prevention
  • Member in good standing with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW)
  • 2 to 5 years of applicable social work, frontline work, or outreach experience in a fast-paced, change-oriented environment or at an adult/post-secondary institution
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with proven ability to establish trusting relationships
  • Ability to appreciate mental health complexity, stigma, and support-seeking behaviour from an intersectional, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive lens
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience supporting diverse communities and populations
  • Experience providing crisis and short-term counselling support, information, and referrals
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally and sensitively
  • Ability to work independently and cohesively within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Ability to work within ACSW Standards of Practice, legislative frameworks, University policies, and privacy legislation (POPA and HIA)
