About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide comprehensive support for patient care activities under supervision
- Meet, greet, and assist the public
- Answer telephones
- Coordinate appointments, referrals, consults, tests, and procedures
- Check in and register patients
- Check out patients
- Collect payments and issue receipts
- Verify insurance coverage and respond to third-party payer requirements
- Coordinate hospital admissions and surgery scheduling
- Schedule, reschedule, coordinate, and cancel appointments using the hospital system
- Conduct pre-registration as needed
- Input and update accurate patient information
- Create new patient charts and access systems for orders
- Conduct insurance verification and benefit explanation
- Request and gather outside medical records from referrals
- Handle conflicts professionally using listening and negotiation skills
- Maintain accurate records and use communication devices
- Demonstrate service recovery skills
- Attend required training and in-services
- Participate in annual educational needs assessment
- Maintain job skill competencies and complete annual skill assessments
- Complete and maintain annual continuing education documentation
- Perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma/GED
- Two (2) years of customer service or healthcare experience
- Basic proficiency with computers, preferably MS Office
- Excellent telephone etiquette skills
- General knowledge of office machines including printers and scanners
- Persons must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
- Pre-employment screening, including criminal background, drug testing, and/or education verification
